Sustainability
At IOC we are committed to becoming a premier mining organization in North America. To achieve this goal, the way we do our work every day at IOC is just as important as the work that we deliver. Our commitment to health, safety, environment and communities (HSEC) is fundamental to how we do business.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions

At IOC, we are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting the environment we all share. Through innovation and responsible practices, we strive to create a sustainable future for our communities and generations to come.

IOC’s pellets and concentrate are high-grade products with world-leading low alumina and ultra-low phosphorus, making them highly sought-after in the iron and steel industry. Their high quality and clean chemistry help lower their carbon footprint compared to lower-quality grades and forms of iron ore used in the iron and steel industry.

We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact and supporting the transition to a low-carbon future. Through targeted investments and innovative technologies, we’re actively lowering our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our operations. With support from the Government of Canada’s Low Carbon Economy Fund, we’re implementing solutions like electric boilers and high-efficiency burners—initiatives that are expected to cut nearly 9% of our total emissions. These efforts reflect our dedication to responsible mining, sustainable development, and a cleaner future for Labrador West and beyond.
