After processing at the Labrador City facilities, the pellets and concentrate are transported 418 km south via the Quebec North Shore and Labrador (QNS&L) railway to the company's shipping terminal and deepwater port in Sept-Îles, Quebec.

The trains can haul up to 24,000 tonnes of ore in 265 cars stretching some 2.5 kilometers in length.

QNS&L is the one of the leading railways in North-America in terms of safety. In 2012, QNS&L received a safety award from the Railway Association of Canada Safety Awards, for its portable device which detects air leaks on train braking system using ultrasounds during train inspection.

Three-Year Plan

Pursuant to Section 141 of the Canada Transportation Act, QNS&L’s Three-Year Plan is below. The plan indicates where we intend to continue to operate the line or whether, within the next three years, we intend to take steps to discontinue operating the line.
